Whether it’s average amounts of space needed for a toilet, sink, or bathtub, or a subtle but effective design strategy to ensure that you love your new bathroom space, it’s important to do the proper amount of research before jumping into the decision-making process. Let’s look at some important things to remember when designing a new bathroom for your home. The cost Perhaps most commonly underestimated is the overall cost of remodeling your bathroom. There is so much more than simply re-tiling or repainting. Plus, there will almost always be extra costs that you don’t think of, so you’re going to want to have a buffer for unexpected costs as well. If you’re remodeling on a budget, it’s good to know that there are certain tips and tricks for lowering the cost of remodeling a bathroom. You simply should be willing to put in the time to plan and execute that plan.

For example, you can cut down on labor costs by installing a new toilet yourself. This is a fairly straightforward project that typically takes an hour or less. Most “average” people are able to do it successfully. Other installations, of course, should probably be done by a professional or someone with some experience.

Hide the toilet Of course, we don’t literally mean that you should hide the toilet. But a classic bathroom designer’s trick is to ensure that the toilet isn’t the first thing you see when you enter a bathroom or open the door to the bathroom. It simply isn’t the most pleasant sight to see. You can avoid any unpleasantness by having something a bit more aesthetically pleasing greet you on your way into the bathroom. Consider vintage Using your vintage tiles to your advantage can be an incredibly clever move. Not only will it cut down on the costs of removing that old tile (which could have been set with tons of concrete layers and wire lath, making the removal process slow and expensive), but it will also add a unique element to your brand-new bathroom. If this makes sense for your bathroom, don’t hesitate: go vintage! Spacing You’ll need to employ a bit of your math skills to successfully design a bathroom. To do this, you will need to know the approximate size of an average bathtub, toilet, sink, and so on. Otherwise, you could end up with a poorly designed space that feels cramped and uncomfortable rather than the brand, clean, new oasis that you deserve.

The same goes for things like the height of your sink. Think about the typical height for a countertop, then consider whether the sink itself adds any height, as that would probably make a difference in the ease and comfort of use. You can’t over analyze when it comes to designing a new bathroom.
